Update on Stop Loss App
The iPhone/iPad Stop Loss App is close to be released in Light and Full version.
Here is how the full version works.
Here is how the full version works.
Input a tickers list (probably limited to a few hundred characters, but you can always run the app twice if needed) or reuse the last used list.
Here's your tickers list with last close price and suggested Stop Loss.
The Light version will be free and would work only on DJ tickers, one at a time, and with fix risk level. It should be enough to be tested and evaluated.
The full version will be priced between 5$ and 5 Euros.
If things go well with this "When to sell" App there will be other two Apps to follow:
- What to buy
- When to buy
Do you like it? Please spread the word.

Roadmap: Market and iPhone App
Dear Readers,
you may think I have disappeared. I have not.
As a matter of facts I am watching the market and working on a new iPhone/iPad App. Please allow me to share my ideas and please allow me to ask your cooperation.
The market
What can we say other than "market is crazy"? It looks like moving randomly, with or against economic news.
If you followed me you should have taken some profits and some losses (with a positive balance, though).
Since several weeks ago I am sitting down watching at what's happening. I am not confident yet about investing, although there are many interesting stocks that may be worth to buy sooner or later.
iPhone Apps
Some of you know I am planning to release an iPhone App to calculate stop loss prices.
This is one of 3 apps I have in mind (and I used in a PC Java version):
- First App: What to buy. This tool will tell at any time which are the most undervalued companies. Basically, it will provide a watchlist.
- Second App: When to buy. This application will tell when we should buy the stocks identified by the first app.
- Third App (but first to be released): When to sell. This is the stop loss calculator.
What's next?
I decided to start with the 3rd app, since there is no need for setting up an external server for that. If things go well and I can get some money from that I will setup the server and develop the other two apps.
I am in touch with a developer for this Stop Loss App. It will be available in 2 versions:
- Full version. It will calculate stop loss prices for virtually any number of tickers (some of them, though, may be not available - like pink sheet). It will also allow users to define their own risk preferences. I will ask for some money for that.
- A light version. It will calculate the stop loss price for one ticker at a time. Available tickers will only include the 30 main Dow Jones. Risk level will not be changeable. This app will be free and will allow users to validate the concept.
How you could help
I have an idea of how much time and money this idea would cost.
Now I need an idea of how many people could appreciate such an application (or such a set of apps).
So I ask you two things:
- Would you be so kind to answer the following questions in the comments?
- Would you be so kind to forward this to your friends and invite them to do the same?
Thank you

Survey
1. Are you aware of any iPhone/iPad App able to give you a daily stop loss price other than standard trailing stop?
2. Would you be interested in such an App?
3. Would you be willing to pay for such an app? How much?
4. Do you have any additional comment/suggestion?

New Buy: SKBI
Last week the crazy market triggered our HITK stop.
Today I would suggest to buy SKBI with a 1% trailing stop and initial stop loss of $7.82.

Update and new buy
UPDATE
ONP too high. We missed the train this time...
Personally, I made around 10% in a couple of weeks. I hope you did as well.
2. Some time ago our LANC broke its stop loss and we should have closed our position with a modest 5% gain.
3. I would buy some ONP with an initial stop loss price of $8.49

New Buy: HITK
I usually do not like to buy stocks that have been moving up and up recently, but in this case I would make an exception.
Technically HITK looks like having failed a head and shoulders (that often results in a continuing trend). Slow stochastic just gave a buy signal.
In addition to that the company fundamentals look very good: better value than industry (PE less than 10), good quick and current ration, no debts, high profitability and effectiveness. And finally, a good growth.
I would suggest to place a 1% trailing stop buy order after 10 AM. Initial stop loss at $20.84.
